Using policy briefs to showcase a range of research
Midlands University
A midlands university identified it had published a range of research that had outcomes and ideas that would be of interest to policy makers and could, hence, make a positive contribution to its next REF submissions.
The challenge
The research business development manager wanted to produce six policy briefings, covering the outcomes from research areas as varied as addiction recovery, Long Covid and nature connectedness. Communicating the many different types of information involved was complex and the university did not have the internal resources to do the work.
Approach
Using materials provided by the researchers as the starting point, our technical writer and designer looked for ways to enhance the key points visually. By understanding the data and the important messages within the research, working closely with the academics, the team suggested a range of infographics that revealed the findings in a new way.

Outcome
We created a series of visually attractive policy briefings for both print and digital reproduction. The infographic elements were created so that they could be applied across other platforms including social media.
