Turning structured interviews into meaningful stories
Leading Scottish University
Researchers at a university in Scotland had carried out a series of interviews with ethnic minority energy professionals as source material for academic papers. However, they needed help to turn the academic language into a book of stories written in accessible language.
The challenge
The transcript from each semi-structured interview conducted as part of the research ran to over 12 pages. Bulletin needed to extract the key details and findings to create a series of narratives – each one highlighting a specific learning objective.
Approach
The stories were complex and multifaceted but the messaging needed to be readily understandable. Bulletin created a book of eight stories and a set of guidelines. We created a series of custom illustrations for each individual story and used pull out quotes in the layout pull out quotes to highlight the key points with a summary of the key learnings at the end of each story to highlight the learning objectives.

Outcome
The academic team received a book and set of guidelines, created for both printed and digital distribution. These documents are being used by companies in the energy sector around the UK as they try to improve the working environment for ethnical diverse engineers.
