Even today, the impact created from the research done in universities is often “hidden”. Working with researchers, their funders and the marketing teams that support them, Bulletin Academic produces impact case studies, policy briefings, videos, infographics and other documentation to tell the stories that matter to the people who need to see and hear them.
Video and podcasts
Video is a powerful way of getting messages across to audiences outside academia. Whether distributed via a website, email or social media (such as LinkedIn), it can be more engaging than the written word and easier to digest. Podcasts offer an opportunity for researchers to tell their stories in a more informal way that can be periodically updated.
Current core offer
Video case studies
We produce video case studies that focus on the strengths and achievements of research and projects to share with prospective partner companies and associates. We offer full production, including storyboarding, filming, editing and transcription. We can also produce video shorts for distribution across social media channels, as well as interviews (either remotely or in person).
See our case study to find out more about using videos to promote KTPs.
Video editing
We can apply our full production suite to work with your existing footage and craft an impactful case study video.
“I know what a positive impact KTPs can have for all members of a partnership, but they are complicated to communicate to new audiences. It was great to work with the team at Bulletin, because they understood the scheme in detail and recognised how exciting the innovations delivered by the projects were.”
Emma Craig, KTP Projects Coordinator, North of Scotland KTP Centre
Research impact and policy briefings
Writing an impact case study or a policy briefing is not the same as writing an academic paper. We can work with you to identify the elements of your research findings and impacts which are most interesting to practitioners and policy influencers. Our content authoring and graphic design skills ensure your messages are delivered with clarity and authority.
Current core offer
Editing and writing of text for policy briefings and impact case studies
Our highly experienced team offers a range of writing services to generate newsworthy stories and ensure research gets in front of the right people. Our services include:
- Authoring case studies
- Ghost-writing articles in accessible language
- Placing articles and interviews in suitable media
- Proposing and organising targeted events to bring policy stakeholders and academics together
Extraction of policy recommendations from academic papers and other publications
We can provide independent analysis of the potential of your research to deliver guidance to policymakers. This includes:
- Identifying policy areas where impact is most likely and mapping them against the strongest and most relevant research at your university
- Recommending research areas to be targeted to generate policy guidance
- Interviewing researchers to clarify the potential of their research to influence policy and to identify any training needs
Design for briefings and collateral for print or digital
Impactful design can assist the clarity of briefings and help them reach a wider audience. We offer a range of services, from designing infographics that communicate data more clearly to designing briefings to make them more eye-catching. We work alongside institutional marketing departments to ensure full compliance with guidelines.
Publications
Our experienced team can produce clear, eye-catching research publications, reports and magazines for either the print or digital space. We have a network of trusted suppliers to make your printed material deliver maximum impact.
Guidelines, books and event materials
Research project plans usually stipulate that findings should be disseminated through seminars and workshops. Using an impact case study or policy briefing as a basis, Bulletin can help produce the additional materials that this activity demands – including user handbooks, guidelines, posters, case study “story books” and single-sheet summary documents.
If what you are looking for isn’t here, please contact us – we are happy to discuss and create something tailored to your needs.

Case studies, guidelines and brochures
Working to a client brief, we write, design and produce research impact and findings-based web/print-ready materials that target specific audiences and requirements. We can source and produce imagery and infographics, creating layouts designed to communicate your research to non-specialist audiences.
Event materials
Working alongside institutional marketing departments, we can support the creation of event materials such as posters, banners, conference brochures and marketing collateral. We can also provide printed materials through our trusted suppliers.
“Bulletin worked closely with us to produce a professional toolkit that we could send to regional organisations. They helped us to convey our messages more persuasively through an iterative process of editing & formatting which we found to be extremely useful.”
Professor Carley Foster

Infographics
A picture paints a thousand words – and an infographic can clearly and compellingly communicate the message behind a thousand data points.
